Capturing the perfect moment, or just making lots of shots is not always an easy task, but it can frequently be automated. This automation can be done by a Ratherboard, since it can communicate wirelessly with any camera that has wireless capabilities. Of course, nothing stops the user from integrating an interface into the Ratherboard that can communicate with a camera over cable too.
A great example for this application is when we were controlling a GoPro with our Ratherboard and took a picture every 15 minutes, which we immediately downloaded to an external storage. This way we were able to make an amazing time-lapse without having to worry that the GoPro’s internal SD card would run out of space.
Imagine what a spectacular blog could be made with time-lapse videos made by Ratherboard controlled cameras! For example you could capture a landscape at every sunrise and sunset with the help of the ambient light sensor. Or how interesting it would be to put a motion sensor over your door or around your desk and take a picture of everyone who comes around!
We can’t say we know anything about nature photography but we do know that animals have a very keen sense of smell so taking pictures of them is not easy. We would hardly have the time for such hobbies while designing electronics anyway, but if we wanted to take a picture of a deer we would surely do something like this: a camera set up in the nature with a Ratherboard, controlled from home. It is comfortable, and we surely wouldn’t scare the deer away. We’d make a lower quality video on which any motion can automatically be detected so we could immediately see what is in front of the camera and then take a picture using remote control manually. Yes, we like it the geek way!
